🌻 Heirloom Variety of the Month: Boothby’s Blonde Cucumber
This charming heirloom cucumber from Maine is known for its pale yellow skin, sweet mild flavor, and crisp texture. Boothby’s Blonde grows well in containers or garden beds and produces abundantly. Pick when young for best flavor and enjoy fresh or pickled.

🪴 Chesapeake Garden Club Plant Sale
We’ll have a tent at the Chesapeake Garden Club Plant Sale on Saturday, May 10! Come visit us and support local growing while picking up plants and handmade goods.

We’ll have:

  • Tomato plants: Black Cherry, Cherokee Purple, Amish Paste, and Rutgers
  • Pepper plants: Fish, Buena Mulata, and Pippin’s Golden Honey
  • Handmade seed bombs with pollinator-friendly seeds
  • Hand-painted Birdhouse Gourds
  • Hand-made Shadow Box Art

All proceeds support SoCo Seed Collective’s work to increase access to seeds, plants, and gardening education.

🌿 Mutual Aid Corner: What’s Needed This Month
We’re currently collecting:

  • Small planting containers and trays
  • Extra seedlings or rooted cuttings
  • Items to help decorate our plant sale booth (fabric, signs, tablecloths, flower baskets, etc.)
  • Volunteers for the Chesapeake Garden Club Plant Sale

To help, email tai@socoseedcollective.org.

📚 Book Club: The Backyard Bird Chronicles

Our book club is now meeting virtually on Zoom to make it more accessible for everyone. This month’s selection is The Backyard Bird Chronicles by Amy Tan — a beautifully illustrated journal that celebrates close observation, birds, and the rhythms of the natural world.
